A Joint Initiative for Tribal Student Health is Launched by AYUSH and Tribal Affairs Ministries

To promote the health of 20,000 tribal kids enrolled in Eklavya Model Residential Schools, the Ministry of AYUSH collaborates with Tribal Affairs. Ayurvedic treatments deal with sickle cell disease, anemia, and malnourishment

A joint initiative between the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Ministry of AYUSH aims to enhance the public health of tribal students. The implementation of Ayurvedic therapies to address health issues among approximately 20,000 indigenous students is the main goal of this collaborative endeavor.

Announcement of Union Ministers
The program was jointly announced by Arjun Munda, Minister of Tribal Affairs, and Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for AYUSH. They emphasized its importance in providing comprehensive public health interventions to address the health needs of students in Eklavya Model Residential Schools throughout tribal communities.

Goals and Areas of Concentration
Targeted Health Needs Assessment: The project is to investigate the health needs of Native American communities and provide public health services, with a particular emphasis on key problems such iron deficiency anemia, hunger, and sickle cell illnesses in Native American kids.
Ayurvedic Interventions:

By utilizing Ayurveda’s efficacy, this project aims to offer interventions that have been shown to be successful in addressing common health problems in tribal groups.

The project is aimed at children in grades 6 through 12 at 55 Eklavya Model Residential Schools spread throughout 14 states in India, who are between the ages of 10 and 18.

Implementation Strategies Encouraging Healthy Lifestyle Practices:

The effort seeks to improve tribal children’s general well-being and capacity to prevent disease by introducing Ayurvedic concepts into their lifestyle choices.
Integration of Medicinal Plant Gardens: It is suggested that schools incorporate medicinal plant gardens in order to inform upcoming generations about the value of conventional medicines in preserving a healthy lifestyle.

Collaborative Framework Memorandum of Understanding (MoU):

To investigate cooperative pathways for tribal development, the Ministry of AYUSH and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs formally signed the MoU in October 2022.
Creation of Poshan Vatikas: As a result of this partnership, 72 Poshan Vatikas have been built by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) in Eklavya Model Residential Schools located in 20 states, providing the foundation for this cooperative health project.
