According to police sources, Amritpal Singh may be returning to Punjab to surrender

In order to find Amritpal Singh, the police launched a massive door-to-door search operation in Hoshiarpur and the nearby villages last night.

Amritpal Singh, a radical Sikh preacher who has spent more than ten days avoiding capture, has reportedly returned to Punjab and intends to turn himself in, according to police sources.Amritpal Singh, who supports a call for a separate homeland for Sikhs and is wanted for an armed raid on a police station last month, was said to be travelling to Amritsar through the Hoshiarpur villages when the Punjab Police were tipped off about his presence, according to sources.

On Tuesday night, the police launched a massive door-to-door search operation in Hoshiarpur and neighbouring villages in an attempt to apprehend him and his associates, who are charged in multiple criminal cases.Amritpal Singh, on the other hand, appeared to have escaped, abandoning an Innova car at a gurdwara in the Maraiyan village of Hoshiarpur and fleeing into the fields. The car was later recovered by the police.

A cordon and search operation was set up in and around the village, with checkpoints and barricades set up on the roads to apprehend the suspects.According to sources, Amritpal Singh planned to give an interview to an international news agency before surrendering, but changed his mind when he realised he had no chance of escaping.

After they rekindled memories of the 1980s Punjab insurgency, which claimed thousands of lives, the Punjab Police came under intense pressure to detain him and his supporters.

Since a police crackdown on him and members of his pro-Khalistan “Waris Punjab De” group on March 18, or about three weeks after he and his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station near Amritsar to secure the release of an arrested man, Amritpal Singh has not been seen or heard from again.The preacher changed vehicles and wore different clothing to evade the police dragnet in the Jalandhar district.

On social media on Tuesday, a new video of Amritpal Singh and his principal assistant Papalpreet Singh appeared. The video showed the self-styled preacher without a turban and donning a mask.The undated CCTV footage, allegedly from a market in Delhi, showed the wanted man wearing sunglasses and walking down a street. Papalpreet Singh could be seen following behind him while carrying a bag.

The Punjab Police have not yet offered any commentary on the video. According to a senior member of the Delhi Police, they are looking into whether Amritpal Singh and his assistant are the people in the video.
