Appasaheb Dharmadhikari will receive the “Maharashtra Bhushan” from Amit Shah

The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, is scheduled to present Dattatreya Narayan Dharmadhikari, also known as Appasaheb Dharmadhikari, with the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ Award.

On April 16, Dattatreya Narayan Dharmadhikari, also known as Appasaheb Dharmadhikari, will receive the “Maharashtra Bhushan” Award from Union Home Minister Amit Shah in recognition of his outstanding work as a social worker and reformer. According to Shinde, following a high-level planning meeting held in Raigad, the award ceremony will take place at the Corporate Park in the Kharghar neighbourhood of Navi Mumbai, and a sizable event is being planned for it.

The prestigious “Maharashtra Bhushan Award” will be given to Appasaheb Dharmadhikari in 2022. He previously received the Padma Shri in 2017. A medal, a citation, and a cash award of Rs. 25 lakh are included with the honour. Interestingly, the late Dr. Narayan Vishnu Dharmadhikari, also known as Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari, received the same honour for his work as a preacher and reformer in 2008 and received the same award this year.

Appasaheb Dharmadhikari was instrumental in a variety of social and community development activities, including tree planting, blood donation drives, medical camps, promoting gender and tribal empowerment, providing training to children, running literacy centres for adults, organising job fairs, promoting cleanliness, combating superstitions, carrying out addiction recovery programs, promoting national unity, and preaching traditional and religious values to the public.

Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari, his father, started the popular gatherings known as ‘Shri Baithaks’ in Raigad in October 1943. Appasaheb Dharmadhikari has carried on the tradition for more than three decades.

With over 152,000 participants and 1,571 doctors, the Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan organised the world’s largest medical camp in December 2013, breaking the previous record.

The Pratishthan has organised numerous service camps outside of Maharashtra and India in places like the US, Australia, Singapore, Qatar, and other countries where their followers are found.
