Students in the higher education sector have a variety of options, and they decide to move between different institutions and between different courses or programmes within the same institution. If there is any migration or withdrawal, it is primarily because the students were able to secure seats in other departments or institutions of their choosing or for other personal reasons, according to Subhas Sarkar.

The government has taken various steps, such as fee reductions, the establishment of more institutes, scholarships, and priority access to national level scholarships, to assist students from low-income families in continuing their education.

“There are also schemes for the welfare of SC and ST students such as ‘waiver of tuition fees in IITs,’ grant of national scholarships under Central Sector Scheme, scholarships in institutes, and so on,” he added.
