On May 3, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will lay the cornerstone for Greenfield Airport.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister, is slated to lay the cornerstone for the Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport on May 3. Construction on the 2,200-acre airport will start as soon as the land acquisition process is finished. The works are anticipated to be completed in 24 to 30 months, according to Gudivada Amarnath, minister of industries and information technology.

Greenfield Airport will enable North Andhra to realise a long-held dream.

The minister stated that the remaining land acquisition process will be finished as soon as possible. This airport has long been a dream for the people of North Andhra. The district administration prioritised resolving the Project Displaced Families’ land acquisition, rehabilitation, and resettlement issues. On 2,200 acres in Bhogapuram, Greenfield International Airport is going to be constructed.

After the state was split in two in 2014, the state government first suggested building the Greenfield airport. N Chandrababu Naidu served as the leader of the former TDP government, which launched the process of acquiring land for the airport and later gave GMR Group permission to build on 2,700 acres of that land.

However, the project was unable to proceed due to legal barriers surrounding land acquisition. The Jagan Mohan Reddy administration finalised the tenders for construction by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited under the Public-Private Partnership model and restarted the land acquisition process with a new alignment for the airport on 2,200 acres.

376 Project Displaced Families from four villages in the Bhogapuram Mandal, including Rellipeta, Mudasarlapeta, Bollinkalapalem, and Maradapalem, have been identified by the district administration. For a total cost of Rs 30 crore, the government built the essential amenities (roads, drainage systems, electrification, community buildings, overhead water tanks, drinking water, parks, Anganwadi centers, and primary schools) after paying each PDF Rs 9.20 lakh. The district administration has taken care of all pending legal, land-acquisition, rehabilitation, and resettlement matters, and is now getting ready for the May 3 ceremony that will lay the cornerstone for the new buildings.
