In New Delhi: The Delhi Police claimed in a statement that a man who has completed up to Class 8 defrauded at least a dozen women out of lakhs of rupees while pretending to be an Indian Police Service, or IPS, officer.
Under the alias Vikas Yadav, the alleged scam artist Vikas Gautam set up phoney accounts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
He even posed with a government vehicle that had a red beacon on it to give the profile an authentic appearance.
A doctor employed by the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Delhi is one of the women he defrauded. They had begun a conversation online. Using information he obtained from the doctor after gaining her trust, he withdrew 25,000 from her bank account one day.
The doctor finally made the decision to contact the authorities after learning that he was a fraud. The police claimed that the fictitious IPS officer threatened her and claimed to have political ties.
The police began technical monitoring after receiving the doctor’s complaint, and they eventually detained him. He pretended to be an IPS officer in order to defraud a number of ladies of lakhs of rupees, according to the police.
Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, is home to Vikas Gautam, according to Delhi Police officer Harinder Singh, who also noted that the suspect took a welding course at an industrial training facility after graduating from Class 8.

Vikas Gautam has a criminal history, according to the police. He had served time in prison for allegedly cheating in Gwalior and Uttar Pradesh.
