Delhi Police suspended for negligence

Two sub-inspectors, four assistant sub-inspectors, four head constables, and one constable are among the suspended employees.

New Delhi: 11 concerned policemen have been suspended for negligence, one day after the Union Home Ministry ordered Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to suspend all personnel posted in three PCR vans and two pickets along the route where 20-year-old Anjali Singh was dragged and killed in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

They are all members of the Rohini district police, which is in charge of the Kanjhawala neighbourhood of outside Delhi, the scene of the horrific tragedy.

Two sub-inspectors, four assistant sub-inspectors, four head constables, and one constable are among the suspended employees. Five of them were manning the pickets while the other six were assigned to PCR duty.

The Home Minister gave the Delhi top cop the order to suspend the police officers with immediate effect after Special Commissioner Shalini Singh of the Delhi Police found them guilty. In the First Information report, or FIR, the ministry had additionally requested the addition of murder charges.Gujarati forensic specialists have been called in to gather samples and evidence from the scene because the case has sparked widespread outrage and censure.

On the request of DCP (outer) Harendra K Singh, who is looking into the matter, a group of five forensic specialists from the National Forensic Science University are visiting, the Delhi Police announced on Thursday.

Police have arrested seven people in the cas. five immediately after the incident, and two others for aiding the crime.

Police detained Deepak Khanna, 26, Amit Khanna, 25, Krishan, 27, Mithun, 26, and Manoj Mittal on January 1 alone. Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna were later detained for allegedly protecting the suspects

Because the windows were down and loud music was playing inside the car, the accused originally claimed they were unaware the woman was trapped under their vehicle. Police sources, however, claim that they eventually revealed that they were aware the woman was trapped under the vehicle but chose not to stop out of fear.

Anjali Singh, 20, was struck by a car shortly after 2 in the morning as she and a companion rode their scooter back to their house following a new year’s party. Her buddy landed on the opposite side and sustained just minor injuries, but she was pulled for around 13 kilometres from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in North Delhi with her leg locked in the front tyre.

The accused, who were apparently intoxicated, have been charged with reckless driving, causing death by negligence, and “culpable homicide not amounting to murder.”
