“There should be no tolerance for discrimination in IITs,” says Mr. Pradhan

New Delhi:- According to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday, the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) should have zero tolerance for any form of discrimination and should offer students the support they need.

Mr. Pradhan also stated that students at the institutes should be the face of the new India and prepared to be citizens of the world at a meeting of the IIT Council, the top coordination body of all 23 premier engineering colleges.

The council discussed several measures that were required to guarantee the wellbeing and mental health of IIT students.It emphasised the need for a strong grievance procedure, expanded access to psychological counselling, decreased stress, and emphasised the value of lowering students’ fears of failure and rejection.The council decided to improve the assistance given to students from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.Additionally, it was decided to extend the tenure of support for female PhD scholars by one more year.

The pivotal decisions were made at the IIT Council’s 55th meeting, which was held after a two-year hiatus. In light of the pandemic, the final meeting was held essentially in February 2021. Additionally, this is the first IIT Council meeting that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will preside over.

The council is in charge of the administrative and other important matters at the IITs. It consists of directors and chairpersons from all 23 IITs.

NMIMS has been barred from participating in distance learning and online courses.

NMIMS Admission 2023: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has additionally advised prospective students against enrolling in any of the NMIMS institute’s courses.

In New Delhi: Due to egregious norm violations, the UGC has prohibited renowned business school Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) from offering distance learning and online programmes, an official said today.

Potential students have also been warned by the University Grants Commission (UGC) not to enrol in any of the courses provided by the NMIMS institute.

The institute, which was founded in 1981, received university status in 2003.

“Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Maharashtra has not adhered to the UGC regulations and is in gross violations with regard to the functioning of the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), quality of Self Learning Material and e-Learning Material (e-LM), and nomenclature of Centre for Distance and Online Learning,” UGC secretary Manish Joshi said.

He continued, “The institute was not abiding by the fee refund policy announced by UGC and numerous continuous complaints were received against the HEI (higher education institution) in offering Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes.

According to Joshi, the commission has so far decided to prevent the institute from providing ODL and online programmes for the academic sessions of January–February 2023, July–August 2023, and January–February 2024.

“It may be allowed to offer ODL and online programmes for academic session beginning in July-August 2024 only pursuant to inspection or on-site visit by UGC and after obtaining necessary approvals from UGC,” he stated.
