After the formation of this coalition between Congress and JDS.

After 14 months, Karnataka politics changed direction once more. Following the uprising of some Congress and JDS MLAs, Kumaraswamy was forced to resign from his position. With the support of 219 MLAs, Yeddyurappa united these rebels with the BJP, and on July 26, 2019, he was elected chief minister. However, he resigned after two years in office. For the upcoming assembly elections, the BJP has a 150 seat goal. In just three months, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made seven trips to Karnataka. It has been discussed how BS Yeddyurappa and Modi met during their previous visit. On February 27, Modi arrived in Shivamogga, where he kneeled before Yeddyupappa. Yedi has made his retirement known. JDS: Will contest elections alone, Southern Karnataka party’s bastion

The Janata Dal Secular (JDS), the political organisation led by former prime minister HD Deve Gowda (89), won the 2018 local elections. BJP was undoubtedly the largest party, but JDS and Congress together formed the government. On May 23, 2018, Deve Gowda’s son HD Kumaraswamy was appointed chief minister.

However, his government was toppled on July 23, 2019, following the debate over the motion of confidence. Party leader Kumaraswamy stated during a programme in January that the BJP government will not be formed even if Modi and Shah visit Karnataka 100 times. In October of last year, Kumaraswamy declared he would run unopposed in the 2023 elections.

The JDS has dominated southern Karnataka, also known as Old Mysore. JDS received 30 seats out of the 66 available in this region in 2018. In addition, Congress won 20 seats while the BJP won 15. These regions have mostly been visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah this year.
