FIFA has issued a global suspension to Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici, which may spell the end of his employment with the north London club

FIFA has issued a global suspension to Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici, which may spell the end of his employment with the north London club. After his former team Juventus was found guilty of false accounting in January, Fabio Paratici was given a 30-month suspension from Italian football. Prior to joining Tottenham in June 2021, the Italian, 50, served as managing director and director of sport at Juventus.

His initial suspension only applied to his native country, so he was free to continue working at Tottenham, where he played a role in Antonio Conte’s departure on Sunday and the beginning of the search for a new manager.

However, a statement issued by FIFA on Wednesday threatened to end his time at Tottenham. “FIFA can confirm that, following a request by the Italian FA (FIGC), the chairperson of the FIFA disciplinary committee has decided to extend the sanctions imposed by FIGC on several football officials to have worldwide effect,” the global governing body said.

Both Fabio Paratici and Juventus have filed appeals against the initial ruling. On Tuesday, Tottenham published a lengthy interview with Fabio Paratici in which he insisted Conte’s departure was “the right decision for everyone.”Fabio Paratici stated that the club is “focused” on supporting interim head coach Cristian Stellini as they attempt to qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

Tottenham said they are seeking clarification from FIFA because they believe Fabio Paratici’s ban will not take effect until his appeal is heard.Spurs released a statement in which they stated, “We are urgently requesting further clarification from FIFA as to the details of the extension and its variance from the FIGC sanction.”

“We want to be clear that when Fabio Paratici gave the interview on club channels yesterday, neither he nor the club had any indication that FIFA had made this decision, based on the fact that the FIGC sanction was taken on January 20, 2023, and is still open to appeal on April 19, 2023,” the statement reads.

Although Newcastle is currently in fifth place and has a game in hand, Tottenham are only two points ahead of them in the Premier League. In response to the extension of Fabio Paratici’s suspension, the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) called on Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to reassure supporters about the club’s future on Wednesday.

The THST released a statement in which it stated that “this news adds further to the extremely concerning situation at the club.”
