February, UIDAI records over 1 billion mobile numbers connected to Aadhaar

Up until February 2023, UIDAI has tallied 9,255.57 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions.

Following requests from citizens in the month of February, over 1 crore mobile numbers were seeded in Aadhaar, according to an official statement released on Friday.The Unique Identification Authority of India reports that from 56.7 lakh registrations in January, the linking of mobile numbers with Aadhaar increased by 93% in February. (UIDAI).

The statement said that in February 2023, “over 10.97 million mobile numbers were seeded in Aadhaar in response to requests from residents, a jump of more than 93 percent over the previous month.”One of the major driving forces behind the expansion of seeding mobile numbers with Aadhaar is thought to be the linking of Pan numbers with the identification system.According to estimates, 90 crore Aadhaar users have connected their mobile numbers to their unique ID as of this writing.

According to the statement, “The UIDAI has been urging residents to link their Aadhaar with mobile number for better and effective communication while accessing multitude of voluntary services” and taking advantage of welfare services.Aadhaar has been notified for use in nearly 1700 Central and State social welfare direct benefit transfer (DBT) and good governance schemes.

Aadhaar authentication transactions increased by 13% in February to 226.29 crore, up from 199.62 crore in January.

UIDAI has recorded a total of 9,255.57 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions until February 2023.The statement read, “While a majority of the authentication transaction numbers were carried out by fingerprint, it is followed by demographic and OTP.”According to UIDAI, more than 26.79 crore e-KYC transactions were made in February, bringing the total to 1,439.04 crore.

Deadline for PAN Card and Aadhaar Card Linking Extends to June 30

From July 1, 2023, the PAN of taxpayers whose Aadhaar has not been informed as required will be invalid.

To give taxpayers more time, the government on Tuesday extended the deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar by three months, to June 30, 2023, according to an official statement. Prior to that, the deadline was March 31.People can inform the required authority of their Aadhaar for Aadhaar-PAN linking without repercussions, it added.

Every person who had been assigned a PAN as of July 1, 2017, and who is qualified to obtain an Aadhaar number, is required to inform the prescribed authority of his Aadhaar on or before March 31, 2023, in accordance with the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961, upon payment of the prescribed fee.

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in penalties under the Income Tax Act starting on April 1, 2023. The deadline for providing Aadhaar to the required authority in order to link Aadhaar and PAN has been extended until June 30, 2023, the statement said.

The PAN of taxpayers who have neglected to provide their Aadhaar as required will no longer be valid as of July 1, 2023.
