“I cannot teach you violence, as I do not myself believe in it. I can only teach you not to bow your heads before anyone even at the cost of your life.” – Mahatma Gandhi.

Credent TV | Let’s remember Mahatma Gandhi, who gently shook the world with his great ideologies.

The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is celebrated every year on October 2nd with a whole lot of grandeur and pomp across the country. This year, Gandhi Jayanti will mark the 154th birth anniversary of the “Mahatma”. The Government of India has proposed celebrating the day as a festival to honour his valuable contributions to world peace and communal harmony.

Father of the Nation, as he was called, led India’s independence movement, along with many other freedom fighters. Mahatma’s way of choosing non-violence to attain independence of the country against British rule stands as an example for the world to drop the weapons and choose the non-violent way. Thus, to celebrate his contribution to the country’s freedom struggle, 2nd October is celebrated as a national festival all over the nation. The United Nations General Assembly has also declared October 2 to be celebrated as the ‘International Day of Non-Violence.’

DAV school – Keeping in sync with the guidelines issued by the government earlier, 2 October, 2022 (Sunday) was a working day at DAV Centenary Public School, Jaipur to commemorate the occasion.

The celebration began with paying homage to ‘Father of the Nation’. The programme was inaugurated with the traditional lamp lighting by the Principal Mr A.K. Sharma and some senior staff members. A floral tribute was also offered to the father of the nation by the Principal. It was followed by a discourse on the life-lessons to be imbibed from Gandhiji’s and Shastrji’s life and ideologies. This great day also reminded us of a very humble, simple yet unrelenting personality – Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the 2nd Prime Minister of Free India.

The discourse was followed by Sarv Dharm Prarthana Sabha. Assembly became harmonious and spiritual with the three prayers sung consecutively as follows, to pay tribute to our beloved ‘bapu’ :

  1. Vaishnava Jan To Tene Kahiye Jay Peed Parayi Jaanere….
  2. De di hame aazadi Bina khadag, Bina dhaal….
  3. Dharm vohi ek saccha, jagat ko pyaar deve hum….

DAV school’s celebration ended on the note that Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and ideologies remain relevant even today. We just need to follow and apply his teachings in our lives.
Happy Gandhi Jayanti!
