Before the Delhi mayor elections began, there was a major uproar at the Civic Center over the swearing-in of elected council members.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party councilors clashed and caused mayoral election voting to be suspended even before it started on Friday at the Civic Center.

Ahead of the elections for Delhi mayor, council members from both parties engaged in physical altercations before protesting and yelling anti-one another slogans.

As Delhi prepared to pick its first single mayor in ten years after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was consolidated last year, a high drama played out in the assembly for more than an hour.

Alderman Manoj Kumar was asked to take the oath first, and there was a loud uproar inside the MCD House. Following the uproar, the MCD commissioner, the presiding officer and other officials exited the House.
