Honda surpasses Hero MotoCorp to top spot in two-wheeler sales

After twenty-six years of partnership and the nation’s heartthrob, a time came when Hero and Japanese automaker Honda announced their separation. After the parting of this joint venture, the rivalry between the two companies continued, but in the month of September, something happened which was not seen till now. After the first time, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) occupied the number one position, overtaking Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer in terms of retail sales. According to the vehicle portal, in the month of September, Honda sold more two-wheelers than Hero MotoCorp.

According to the report, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Limited has sold a total of 2.85 lakh two-wheelers. At the same time, Hero MotoCorp could sell only 2.51 lakh two-wheelers during this period. Let us tell you that in the commuter bike segment, Hero’s models like Splendor, Passion Pro, Glamor and Deluxe sell the most. On the other hand, Honda’s best selling list includes models like the famous scooter Activa and Shine.

Honda has achieved such a milestone for the first time. Hero MotoCorp posted total sales of 5,19,980 units last month, and the company also announced the launch of its first electric scooter in the market. The company is going to launch its first electric model under the VIDA brand on October 7, 2022. On the other hand, Honda is preparing to make a big dent in the commuter segment, it is reported that Honda is preparing to introduce an affordable motorcycle in the market soon, which will directly compete with the Hero Splendor.

According to media reports, Hero MotoCorp is finalizing a collaboration agreement with California-based premium electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero Motorcycles. The two companies will work together on electric vehicles and the company’s board has also approved an equity investment of up to $60 million in Xero Motorcycles. In the electric vehicle segment, Hero MotoCorp will sell its vehicles under the Vida brand, this is being done under an agreement between the Munjal family, as Vijay Munjal and his son Naveen Munjal, belonging to the Munjal family, are under the control of electric two wheeler company ‘Hero Electric’. There are owners and both the companies are different from each other.
