IND vs SA: BCCI Names Mohammed Siraj As Replacement for Jasprit Bumrah In T20I Squad

Right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has been included in Team India for the remaining two matches of the three-match T20 series against South Africa. He will replace veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was ruled out due to injury. The BCCI announced this on Friday (30 September).

Bumrah did not play in the first T20 match against South Africa. He made a comeback from the series against Australia. He got injured during the series against England. After that, apart from the series against West Indies and Zimbabwe, he could not play in the Asia Cup.

What did the BCCI say?
“The All India Senior Selection Committee has included Mohammad Siraj in the squad for the T20 series against South Africa in place of injured Jasprit Bumrah,” BCCI said in a statement. Bumrah has suffered a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team.” The remaining two matches of the series will be played in Guwahati on October 2 and Indore on October 4.

Bumrah out for four to six weeks
News agency PTI quoted BCCI sources as saying that Bumrah has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup along with the series against South Africa. The BCCI told about the South Africa series, but did not issue any statement regarding their availability in the T20 World Cup. PTI has informed that he will not have any surgery, but he will be away from cricket for four to six months. Bumrah had gone to Thiruvananthapuram with the team, but after a day’s practice there, moved to Bengaluru. He will undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He has also been ruled out of the series against South Africa.
