On April 14, KCR unveiled the 125-foot-tall statue of BR Ambedkar in Hyderabad.

Indian-origin Virendra Sharma, a British MP, praised Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for the installation of a 125-foot-tall statue of B R Ambedkar in Hyderabad, and hoped that Mr Rao would join them in the UK soon to share the inspiration for the Hyderabad statue.

On April 14, Mr Rao, also known as KCR, unveiled a 125-foot-tall statue of Ambedkar here.

Virendra Sharma, Member of Parliament for Ealing, said in a letter to Telangana Chief Minister (which was released by the CMO on Saturday), “The construction of the new statue to B R Ambedkar is a great achievement and one I hope you and the entire state are proud of.”

“The story of India is told through Ambedkar’s history and works. The veteran MP noted that Gandhi’s ideas on tolerance, his support for social equality, and his extensive writing were far ahead of their times in both the UK and India.

According to Mr. Sharma, Ambedkar’s ideas helped to shape the modern Indian constitution by placing a higher value on diversity and development than on outmoded ideas. He claimed that he wrote the Constitution as its father and author with the future of the country in mind.

Ambedkar had a vision for the future, which, according to Mr. Sharma, we have still not fully realised.

Sharma also expressed his pride at his close collaboration with Telangana community organisations in the UK in the letter.

“It is a particular pleasure to collaborate closely with Telangana-born Uday Nagaraju, who is running for office in the UK. They do wonderful work to enliven and enrich the social and cultural life of the entire Telangana diaspora in the UK, as well as their own community, he said.

“I hope you will join us in the UK soon, and share the inspiration for the Hyderabad statue,” Mr. Sharma continued.

The statue, which cost 146.50 crore, is made of 114 tonnes of bronze and 360 tonnes of stainless steel.
