The National Rifle Association of India’ s NRAI Senior Vice-President, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, assumed the role of President. This transition took place because the previous president, Raninder Singh, took a lengthy leave of absence after the Sports Ministry issued a directive stating that, in accordance with the National Sports Code, NSF presidents cannot hold office for longer than 12 years. Following this instruction, Raninder Singh, who was re-elected as the NRAI president in September 2021, took a leave of absence.

The Sports Ministry had noted last month that Raninder Singh had held the position of NRAI president for 12 years—from December 29, 2010, to December 29, 2022—and that, in accordance with the National Sports Code, he was no longer eligible to do so. He was re-elected to a four-year term as NRAI president in September 2021, but he was forced to take a leave of absence because he had served the full amount of time as the federation’s president.
