The Visva Bharati University has issued a statement criticizing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in what started out as a dispute over the university’s claim that Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen had illegally occupied land.

The university stated in a news release, “The core university is called Visva Bharati. We are better off without your blessings because we are accustomed to the Prime Minister’s margdarshan (direction).”

Visva-Bharati spokeswoman Mahua Banerjee signed the statement.

The institution had earlier come under fire from Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, for charging Nobel laureate Amartya Sen with trespassing on university property. Ashutosh Sen, the father of Amartya Sen, was indeed given that land, according to papers provided by Mamata Banerjee, and there was no illegal occupation as claimed by the university.

“I hurried here because I want to give the truth based on information. You may claim, “I am giving these documents to Respected Amartya Sen in retaliation for the disrespect shown to him.” The Chief Minister told reporters after meeting the Nobel Laureate, “The BJP should not try to humiliate him like the way in the future, and some pro-BJP saffronised individuals should not do this also.

Without mentioning the Vice-Chancellor who claims he didn’t want to offend Amartya Sen by questioning his Nobel Prize, Mamata Banerjee stated that Vishva-Bharati University should concentrate on managing the university rather than encouraging students to engage in saffronization. In order to put an end to the campus turmoil, Mamata Banerjee met with protesting Visva-Bharati University students. She assured them of her full support.

“We all have a duty to raise awareness and defend Visva-Bharati. The principles of outdoor education advocated by Rabindranath Tagore. If someone believes they can intimidate students or teachers by using force, they should keep in mind that I am with them even if no one else is “She spoke.

Additionally, Mamata Banerjee requested an apology from the institution to Amartya Sen.

The land that was assigned to him according to the land deed is 1.25 acres, but he claims 1.38 acres, Vice-Chancellor of Vishva Bharati University Bidyut Chakrabarty earlier informed reporters.

Amartya Sen shouldn’t get involved in this kind of debate, according to the BJP. “Amartya Sen is an icon to many people and he should not get embroiled in this kind of issue,” BJP National General Secretary Dilip Ghosh told reporters. If this is true in any way, he should personally come forward and say so.
