Mental Health Awareness

The way we THINK, the way we FEEL, and the way we REACT in any situation; is what defines the state of one’s mental health. Also, the way we handle our anxiety and stress determines our mental capacity to accept and adjust to any prevailing situation we are going through.

What is mental health?

People, in India specifically; give more importance to physical health than mental health. They don’t value this issue the way it needs to be. People titled as Parents, often neglect the mental conditions of their child by stating ‘Padhai mai dhyaan lagao’, ‘Phone zyada mat use Karo, etc. and then feel guilty and betrayed when facing its repercussions. When will they understand the importance of mental health overstudies and scores? The Generation we are living in and the competition we are facing cannot be compared with their 80s and 90s period. Lacking just a 0.1 mark to get a seat in college hurts more than walking 6 km to school. Because that hurts you mentally, the defect and the injuries can’t be seen and more importantly can’t be explained. And unfortunately, society fails to understand that phrase until it becomes serious physical damage.

On the other hand, Parents are being overprotective of their children, drawing boundaries to save them from the outside world and some basic difficulties which are important to experience for a person to live such an unexpected life where nothing is permanent. Overcare makes us weak, it makes us a completely dependent person and it can prove very dangerous later at some point in life. So, it becomes very important for a parent to mold their child’s raw mind into a healthy mindset. Basically, a mental shield needs to be installed which protects them from any kind of mental illness and traumatic emotions. And for that, I think healthy two-way communication plays a very crucial role. A healthy talk where a person from both sides listens understands and makes reassurance in a positive manner.

How it affects the overall well-being of an individual?

The ambiance of a place where we live holds the main string of our overall mental health. The people among whom we are living, spending most of our time, have a great influence on our mental health. A child who has seen her parents arguing and fighting almost every day can’t focus on anything good and can lead to a major anxiety disorder and some other serious mental disorders.

Also, it will be very difficult for her to believe in marriage and relationships because for her the only definition of a relationship is what her parents are making her learn. And even if she walks into a relationship, she might feel suspicious for getting unconditional love, care, and respect which had no traces in her parents’ relationship.

So, smart parenting considers all these mental conditions as a priority in the process of upbringing their child in a healthy and productive way. Because the influence caused by such negative situations on mental health is dangerous enough to make a person lose the purpose of living.

Worst-to-worst physical damage can be cured by plastic surgery but there is no such surgery for mental damage.

So, prioritize your mental health over anything and anyone!!!
