Michigan State University Shooting in 3 Dead Four hours after the violence began, the gunman was confirmed dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot

A gunman opened fire on the main campus of Michigan State University on Monday night, killing three people and injuring five others, some critically, before being found dead hours later, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot, according to police.

Few official details about the gun violence were immediately available, but Chris Rozman, interim deputy chief of the university police, said shots were fired in two locations: Berkey Hall, an academic building, and the MSU Union building.Police responding to the shooting, which began shortly after 8 p.m. (0100 GMT), discovered victims at both locations, Rozman told reporters three hours later during a televised briefing.

Rozman stated that investigators had no knowledge of the motive. He also stated that the university was not aware of any threats made to the campus prior to Monday’s carnage.According to Rozman, three victims were killed and five were taken to the hospital, some with life-threatening injuries. Two of the victims were found at Berkey Hall and one at the MSU Union. At some point, the suspect “was contacted by law enforcement off campus,” according to Rozman, and “that scene is being investigated as a crime scene.”

According to Rozman, the gunman died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot four hours after the violence began.”There is no longer a danger on campus. We believe there is only one suspect in this case “he stated Authorities had advised students, faculty, and residents in East Lansing, about 90 miles northwest of Detroit, to “shelter in place” while the manhunt was underway.

“GO, GO, GO!”

MSU police released two still images of the suspect, captured by a surveillance camera and showing him walking into a building, then climbing a short flight of stairs, wearing a jacket, jeans, a baseball cap, and a black mask over his lower face, about three hours after the shooting erupted.

MSU police announced Monday night that all classes and school activities at the university’s flagship East Lansing campus, a sprawling public academic centre with approximately 50,000 students, mostly undergraduates, would be cancelled for 48 hours.

The shooting occurred 14 months after a deadly mass shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland County, Michigan, about 80 miles east of East Lansing, in which a 15-year-old student opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol on Nov. 30, 2021.

Four classmates were killed, and six students and a teacher were injured in the attack, which was the deadliest school shooting in the United States that year.Authorities said the teen suspect in the 2021 shooting, who has pleaded not guilty to murder charges, used a gun bought for him as a Christmas present by his parents, despite signs that he was emotionally disturbed. In the case, both parents were charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer stated on Twitter that she was being briefed on the shooting in East Lansing.Alexis Dinkins, an MSU sophomore who was inside Akers Hall, a campus dormitory, told the Detroit News that she heard people barricading doors and yelling, “Go, go, go!” as the incident unfolded.

As she and others fled the dorm, they were approached by police, who directed them to a nearby bus stop.
