Mumbai: A new water taxi service –
From Belapur in Navi Mumbai to the Gateway of India in Mumbai, the much-anticipated water taxi services have started. Tuesday at Belapur Jetty, Maharashtra’s Minister for Port Development, Dadaji Bhuse, introduced the service (7 February).
The operational and business partner of Nayantara Shipping Pvt. Ltd. (NSPL) is Infinity Harbour Services, a private water taxi provider. There is room for 140 people on the bottom deck of the “Nayan XI” water taxi, which is owned by NPSL, and another 60 on the upper, or business class, deck.
Currently, it takes roughly two hours to travel from Mumbai to Belapur, but the boat service will halve that time.
Whereas a two-way business class ferry ticket from Belapur to Mumbai costs Rs 700, a round-trip taxi from Belapur to Mumbai costs more than Rs 1,000.
NSPL and MyBoatRide.com have a partnership for online ticketing and sales.

“I had been keeping track of the project with the Maharashtra Maritime Board ever since it was first conceived. There won’t be any more traffic jams and pollution for daily commuters between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Once the ferry service catches up, the frequency will be increased, according to local MLA Manda Vijay Mhatre.
The boat will leave Belapur around 8.30 am and arrive at the Gateway of India at roughly 9.25 am. According to Bhuse, the second voyage from the Gateway of India would depart at 6.30 p.m. and arrive in Belapur at 7.30 p.m.
