A mother and her son were killed when a Namma Metro under-construction pillar collapsed in Bengaluru

The Namma Metro pillar number 218 at Nagawara on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road collapsed in the morning.

On January 10, a Namma Metro pillar under construction in Bengaluru collapsed, killing two people. According to the police, a woman and her child on a scooter died in a hospital, while her husband and another child were injured.

Around 10.45 a.m. today, a Namma Metro pillar collapsed and collided with a bike carrying four people. They are Lohith, Tejaswini, and their twins (a son and a daughter). Tejaswini and her son Vihan were critically injured and were taken to a private hospital. Tejaswini and Vihan unfortunately died.”

BMRCL announces compensation and offers to cover the cost of injured workers’ treatment

Anjum Pervez, Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), announced a compensation of Rs. 20 lacks for the deceased’s family. “BMRCL will cover the entire cost of the injured persons’ treatment. The construction work on the site will be halted for two days. A reinforcement structure, not a pillar, has collapsed. It was not a solid structure. It has four ropes, one of which appears to be broken. We have requested a report on this incident from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.). We will also have our internal team look into the matter. This is the first time something this significant has occurred.”

“Namma Metro pillar fell down in ORR near HBR Layout; traffic is congested at various junctions,” Bengaluru city traffic police tweeted. “Our traffic field officers were on the scene, and traffic will be cleared shortly.”

Following the incident, motorists in and around Hennur, Kalyan Nagar, HBR Layout, Nagawara, and surrounding areas reported heavy traffic.

CM seeks details from officials

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has sought information from officials regarding the accident. He told reporters in Dharwad, “I have sought complete details from the officials concerned. We will soon announce compensation for the family of the victims.”

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D.K. Shivakumar said that this is the result of the 40% commission government in the state. “There is no quality in the work.”
