New India Literacy Program

In accordance with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Central Government has approved the “New India Literacy Programme” for the fiscal years 2022–2027, which will now cover all facets of Adult Education in the nation. Education For All will now be referred to as “Adult Education.”

According to the 2011 census, there were 25.76 crore people in the country who were illiterate and were aged 15 or older (9.08 crore men and 16.68 crore women). According to the Education Ministry, there are currently 18.12 crore adults who are illiterate in the nation.

According to the Education Ministry, “as a progressive step, it has also been decided that from now on, the term “Education For All” will be used by the Ministry in place of “Adult Education” due to the fact that the term “Adult Education” does not adequately include all non-literates of 15 years and above age group.”
