Oscars 2023: Jason Blum's Big RRR Prediction - "If I'm Right…"

Oscars 2023: According to a Hollywood producer, Team RRR is destined for the pinnacle of award success. The film is up for two Golden Globes (which will be presented this evening in Los Angeles, early tomorrow morning in India time), and if Jason Blum is correct, RRR will also win the Academy Award for Best Picture. On Sunday, the CEO of Blumhouse Productions (creators of films such as Get Out and Paranormal Activity) tweeted this big Oscar prediction: “I’m going with RRR for the best picture.”

You heard it here first. Please make a note of it. “If I’m correct, I’m going to give myself an Oscar.” In a subsequent tweet, Mr. Blum clarified that he had no vested interest in the outcome. “It’s RRR season.” Don’t pass it up. And no, I’m not in any way involved. I also don’t know anyone associated with the film. “Just look at it,” He put pen to paper.

RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has applied for consideration in several Oscar categories and is one of 301 films eligible for the awards. The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24.

Meanwhile, Rajamouli and his stars, Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, will attend the Golden Globes, where RRR is nominated for Best Non-English Feature Film and Best Original Song for the globally successful Naatu Naatu.

International audiences, including celebrities, have embraced RRR. Over the weekend, Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain praised the film. “Watching this film was such a party,” she tweeted after retweeting a post about it. In response to the actress’ tweet, the producers wrote, “Jessica, your enjoyment of RRR made us happy.”

RRR is based on two legendary freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharamaraju and Komaram Bheem, and is set in the 1920s. It has a strong cast that includes Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead roles. Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Olivia Morris, Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, and Ray Stevenson also appear. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and, unsurprisingly, an overwhelming response from audiences both in India and around the world, grossing over Rs. 1,200 crores.

RRR was simultaneously released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam around the world. The film was also released in Japan and the United States.
