PRISM- “An Inclusive Society for all” at KGP

Jaipur I 28 Nov.,Kapil Gyanpeeth took a noble initiative of observing a special week for the persons with Disabilities from 24th Nov to 29th Nov 2014. It is a social awareness drive to encourage a fundamental shift in attitudes towards differently abled people. This drive is to sensitize the young students with a view to spread the understanding of disability and to advocate an Inclusive Society for all where they are being valued and are included in the mainstream.

The Principal of the school, Mrs. Karuna Yadav kick started the programme. While addressing the students, she defined Disability as an umbrella term covering impairment, handicap, limitations and participatory restrictions. She explained the different types of disabilities ranging from physical, mental, sensory, neurodevelopmental etc also that disabilities can be inherited, acquired or congenital.

She emphasized that the special children has to be included into the mainstream for the sustainable development of the mankind and stressed to foster an attitude of love, compassion and respect for the person with disabilities.

On the second day Sh. C.S. Trivedi Principal ‘Nirmal Vivek’, also spoke to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedom, by all persons with disabilities and to promote and respect for their inherent dignity.

KGP students under this Student Sensitization Programme are visiting ‘Disha’ and ‘Nirmal Vivek’- the schools for disabled students regularly to volunteer services.

Ms Sneha Singhwi, the PGT faculty for Accounts who is an albinotic shared her heart touching experiences of her journey so far.

Additionally some documentary films based on various forms of disabilities are being shown to the school students. Furthermore a signature campaign and simulation exercises would be organized by ‘DISHA’ for KGP students on the 28th to pay their solidarity for this heartfelt cause. During the simulations exercise few students would be blind folded, would be made to walk with the crutches and wheelchairs to make them feels and realize the depth for the cause.

The culmination of the week long programme would be observed as an ‘Inclusive Sports Day’, on 29th Nov’14, where special children and other mainstream schools invited by DISHA and KGP, would participate to mark the inclusion of children with special needs in the mainstream.

Parents of the special students are also invited. Certificates and refreshments would be provided to all participants.

It was also principally agreed that to benefit the community there will be a joint remedial interventions of KGP and some special schools for the LD or slow learners.

The objective of this week long programme is to make the students sensitive and receptive towards differently abled children and that they should not be treated as something to be repulsed by or abhorred.
