Priya Meghwal, Rajasthan’s first female bodybuilder
The 39th International Women’s Bodybuilding Competition was held in Thailand, where Priya Meghwal, the first female bodybuilder from Rajasthan and mother of two, made history by taking home the gold medal.
Priya, a native of Bikaner, got married when she was just eight years old. But because her family was struggling financially, she decided to work at a gym. She became interested in bodybuilding at the gym and started training, eventually becoming Rajasthan’s first female bodybuilder.
Priya Meghwal claims she encountered a number of difficulties because she is from a conservative village where brides are required to wear veils all the time. People have made fun of her for donning sports attire on stage in a few cases. Later, she clarified that although she must wear a sports uniform while performing, she still wears the veil as is customary for women.
She congratulated her daughter for meeting all of her requirements and credited her for her achievement. Following her significant victory at the International Women’s Bodybuilding Competition in Thailand, Meghwal plans to compete in both the Universiade and the Paris, France, 2024 Olympics.

Priya Meghwal has voiced worries about the Rajasthan government’s lack of support for sports despite her ambitions to pursue a vocation in bodybuilding. Despite these obstacles, she is adamant about competing and representing the nation by winning gold.
