Mr. Rahul Gandhi currently has Z+ category security cover, which means he is under the constant watch of eight to nine commandos.

Rahul Gandhi was walking during his pan-Indian foot march, the Bharat Jodo Yatra, when a guy rushed up to him and hugged him, raising questions about his security perimeter. In a video of the incident, a guy can be seen lunging towards Mr. Rahul Gandhi and hugging him from the front as Congress members and security people drag the invader away. Mr. Gandhi then keeps moving forward without stopping.

The event happened a few weeks after Congress expressed worries about Mr. Rahul Gandhi security, alleging multiple breaches. He was subject to increased security demands from the grand old party. The Center and security personnel retaliated, claiming that Mr. Rahul Gandhi had violated his security cover more than 100 times since 2020.

On his way to Kashmir, where his yatra will come to an end, Rahul Gandhi reached the border state of Punjab, which is considered a critical area by security officials.

An official has stated that the specifics surrounding night halts are still being worked out as part of a compressive security study.
