‘Road Safety Week’ at KGP

Jaipur │ As per NHAI each year more than 3 lakh on the spot deaths occur in road accident in INDIA. 81% amongst these causalities are the students. These key figures formed the foundation for the need for sensitization and to create greater awareness for road safety measures.

Therefore to renew the resolve to fight this menace collectively and effectively and to ensure road safety education, KGP observed a ‘Road Safety Week’ 12th Jan to 17th Jan’15, to discourage the casual approach of the school students towards safe driving.

To give impetus to the national concern Principal Karuna Yadav, strongly advocated this weeklong awareness programme as a means of teaching children, how to follow traffic rules and to extend support to road accident victims. The week started with a simple matter of fact oath taking by the school students.

  • I will not stop vehicles myself on the road and run across the road
  • I will not drive until I get a legal license
  • I promise not to disturb my parents while driving
  • I will intervene when I see my parents not following rules of safety on the road
  • I will always wear seatbelt and helmet
  • I will take care of my speed limit
  • I will always bear in my mind that my parents love me and are waiting for me at home.

The weeklong program observed on road safety, included Power Point Presentation, Documentary film screening, Skit Presentation, Slogan writing, Write ups, Poster and bookmark making, Spot-quiz, Road Show holding posters and placards. ‘Road Safety Week’ culminated on17th Jan’15 where Sh. Mukesh Jaipur Traffic Police Department personnel, Dr Rajpal, critical care consultant Fortis and Ms Tincy Thomas Astt. Prof. Mahaveer Cancer Nursing College addressed and demonstrated the awareness on:

  • Importance of traffic signals/sign boards.
  • Importances of driving license/legalized driving.
  • Importance of vehicle status/quality assurance.
  • Importance of seat belts/helmets/baby sitters.
  • Importance of over speeding.
  • Underage driving
  • Driving under special circumstances (Rain, Snowfall, Caves, Tunnels,
  • Bridges, Railway Crossings, Hilly Regions, Elevated roads, Crowds)

 Ms Tincy Thomas gave demonstrations of the measures to carry out for the First Aid to be given for Road Accident victims. Principal Karuna Yadav emphasized that PRECAUTION IS BETTER THAN CURE as Road Traffic Accidents is 100% preventable.
