Shark Tank India Judges

Shocking! A viral post claims that, save from Aman Gupta, all Shark Tank India judges have lost money.

While Shark Tank may have emerged as the preferred reality TV programme for entrepreneurs, author Ankit Uttam recently explained why the Indian version of the programme hasn’t actually worked for him in a widely shared LinkedIn post. The author emphasised how the judges’ businesses are losing money, making him question whether they are “qualified” to offer advice to aspiring business owners who present their ideas on the show. Every judge (Barbara Corcoran, Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Kevin O’Leary) is running enterprises that really produce a profit on the US version of the programme as opposed to relying on venture capital funding or drowning in enormous losses, he said.

When Uttam started researching the companies owned by the Sharks from season 1, SUGAR Cosmetics, the company owned by Vineta Singh, appeared to have declared a loss of INR 75 crore in 2022 while the figure was 21.2 in 2021. He continued on describing how Ghazal Alagh’s Mamaearth recently started making money after losing Rs. 1332 crore and Rs. 428 crore in 2021 and 2020, respectively.

“BharatPe’s overall loss for FY 2022 was Rs 5,594 crores. The business reported a total loss of Rs 2,961 crore for FY 2021. Ashneer Grover was fired from the company in 2022, therefore these losses occurred while he was in charge as well, according to the author. Peyush Bansal Lenskart, which had a loss of Rs 102.3 crore in 2022, was next on the list.

The businessman is not the creator of Emcura Pharma, hence the author questioned Namita Thapar’s status as a shark. He emphasised that her father founded the business and is still the current CEO of the entity. “So, her credentials might resemble Ananya Panday’s in Bollywood to certain people? “Has anybody heard nepotism?” he said.

The article concluded by saying that Shark Aman Gupta’s Boat is the only business that has maintained a profit since its founding. The blogger stated, “To me, the Shark Tank India version seems like Ekta Kapoor’s portrayal of the more compelling US version of the show.”

On January 2, 2023, the second season of the programme debuted, with Aman Gupta, Amit Jain, Anupam Mittal, Namita Thapar, Peyush Bansal, and Vineeta Singh playing Sharks.
