Sonu Nigam files a police report against the MLA’s son after he assaulted him and his coworkers at a Mumbai event

After a fight over taking a photo with the singer at a concert in Mumbai, police claimed on Tuesday that the son of an MLA reportedly shoved musician Sonu Nigam and his two companions and manhandled them. An official said that Sonu Nigam colleague was hurt in the incident that occurred at Chembur Gymkhana on Monday night following the singer’s live performance.
The son of local Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Phaterpekar, Swapnil Phaterpekar, was charged by the Chembur police under Indian Penal Code Sections 323 (voluntary infliction of harm), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 337 (inflicting harm by endangering the life or personal safety of others) in response to a complaint Sonu Nigam made, the official said.

Nigam said that as he and his colleagues exited the stage following the performance, a man—later identified as Swapnil Phaterpekar—came from behind and grabbed hold of Sonu Nigam. Evidently, the accused wanted a selfie with the musician.

According to the allegation, Nigam’s coworker Hari Prakash attempted to dissuade the defendant and drew him aside. However, the official cited the complaint and said that the accused allegedly manhandled Prakash, causing him to fall off the platform. According to the complaint, the accused then shoved Sonu Nigam, causing him to fall on the steps as well.

The accused allegedly also assaulted Rabbani Khan, another coworker of Sonu Nigam, who stepped forward to assist him. Khan also stumbled, according to the allegation.
According to a representative of the Chembur police station, the support personnel who were standing close to the stage then moved forward and stopped the accused.
