Pravasi Bharatiya Samman

The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (Overseas Indian Honour/Award) is the highest
Indian award for a Non-Resident Indian and Overseas Citizen of India, or an
organization or institution established and run by Non-Resident Indians or
Persons of Indian Origin, constituted by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs,
Government of India in conjunction with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Non-
Resident Indian Day), to The award is presented by India’s president. Following a
the decision to grant the award once every two years, the Government of India has
increased the number of awardees each year to 30 since 2016.

17th Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2023

The Indian government has selected 27 Indians who reside abroad for the Pravasi
Bharatiya Samman Awards (PBSA), which recognise remarkable accomplishments
both domestically and internationally. The honour is given to Non-Resident
Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), or organisations and institutions
founded and managed by them. It is the highest honour given to Indians who
reside outside of India.

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar served as the jury’s chairman, and Minister of
External Affairs S. Jaishankar served as its vice-chair, along with other esteemed
figures from other fields. President Droupadi Murmu will present the prizes to
deserving individuals during the 17th annual PBSA, which will take place from
January 8–10 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The subject of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2023 will be “Diaspora: Reliable Partners
for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal,” according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
The significance of the Indian diaspora in advancing India is emphasized by this
theme.
