Gobinda Sahu, the primary suspect in the Mamita Meher murder case, commits suicide; Crime Branch inv

Credent TV: Sahu tried to hang himself while incarcerated at Kantabanji. He was taken to a hospital right away, where a doctor pronounced him dead.

Gobinda Sahu, the main suspect in the well-known Mamita Meher murder case, is said to have committed suicide on Tuesday.

Sahu reportedly attempted suicide by hanging himself inside Kantabanji jail in the Bolangir district. He was promptly taken to a hospital, where the attending physician pronounced him dead.

Today, Sahu was supposed to appear before JMFC court, according to reports.

Sahu recently filed a motion with the Orissa High Court requesting bail, but his request was denied.

As a result of the arrest of the sole suspect in the high-profile murder case, concerns are being raised concerning the security measures in place inside the jail.

The Department of Prisons has requested a DIG-level investigation since it takes the situation seriously. Anasuya Jena, DIG of Sambalpur Prisons Range, would look into the situation to determine why Sahu committed suicide.

Sunil Kumar Bansal, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Odisha, issued the request later in the day.

Mamita Meher, a teacher at Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling, Kalahandi district, and a resident of Jharni village in Turekela Block of Bolangir district, went missing on October 8, 2021.

Govind Sahu, the primary suspect, served as the institution’s president of the managing committee.

On October 19, her decaying remains was retrieved from a stadium that was still being built in the Mahaling neighbourhood of Kalahandi.

Sahu is accused of killing Mamita, chopping off her body, setting it on fire, and then burying it. In order to destroy the evidence, Sahu also set fire to Mamita’s luggage and cellphone.

The Opposition has called for the resignation of then-Minister of State for Home Dibyashankar Mishra after the killing of the female teacher due to his suspected participation in the crime.
