The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup has started in India. In their first match of Group A, India faced USA at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. USA beat India 8-0 in the opening match.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attended the opening ceremony of the tournament in Bhubaneswar. Apart from this, Indian Football Federation President Kalyan Choubey was also present. Indian team would like to present their claim in the World Cup.
Speaking to the media, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said – Under-17 Women’s Football World Cup has started in Bhubaneswar. This is a great platform where girls will get big opportunities in football. All matches will be played from October 11 to October 30. India has made it to the Football World Cup as the host. Team India is one of the three teams to debut in the tournament along with Morocco and Tanzania.
Earlier, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren extended his best wishes to the Indian women’s football team. Six players from Jharkhand are included in the Indian squad. The Jharkhand government has also installed a television set at the home of Team India captain Ashtam Oraon in Gumla district so that Ashtam’s parents can watch India’s first match.
