“I am deeply humbled to see The Kashmir Files as a film and to have my name shortlisted for Best Film and Best Actor at the Oscars in 2023!” Anupam Kher, who stars in the film. Even though it is a short list, it represents a significant achievement for us. Congratulations to the other Indian films on the list as well. Bollywood has arrived!
Pan Nalin’s Chhello Show (Last Film Show), India’s official Oscar entry, joins Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files, Marathi titles Me Vasantrao and Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Irvin Nizhal, and Kannada film Vikrant Rona on the list.
Shaunak Sen’s documentary All That Breathes and Kartiki Gonsalves’ The Elephant Whisperers are also on the list.
Four of the films on the list have already made it to the Oscar shortlists in four categories: Chhello Show, RRR, All That Breathes, and The Elephant Whisperers.

Chhello Show& was named to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ shortlist of ten categories in December, while Naatu Naatu from the blockbuster RRR was named to the Music (Original Song) category.
All That Breathes made the documentary feature shortlist, while The Elephant Whisperers made the documentary shortlist.
This is possibly the first time India has appeared on four Oscar shortlists, the stage preceding nominations.
