Zaka Ashraf is upset that Sri Lanka is hosting the Asia Cup: Hybrid models are harmful to Pakistan, according to Ashraf, a candidate for the PCB chairmanship

The leading candidate to lead the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, has voiced his displeasure that Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup. He claimed that Pakistan would suffer from the hybrid model
The previous administration ought to have insisted on holding the competition entirely in Pakistan.
Zaka Ashraf is now a candidate for the position of PCB chairman thanks to the Pakistani government. This week’s PCB elections will take place, and reports indicate Ashraf will win and take over as chairman.
Pakistan ought to have played in more games,
The hybrid model of the Asia Cup, according to Ashraf, is in no way advantageous for Pakistan, he said during the press conference on Wednesday. As the host, PCB ought to have argued its case to ICC and BCCI vigorously. It will hurt the board to have 9 matches in Sri Lanka and only 4 in Pakistan.
The Asia Cup will feature 6 teams. Group-A members include India, Pakistan, and Nepal. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka are in Group B.
Since the choice has already been made, it shouldn’t be changed.
Zaka reiterated that the Asia Cup will be run using a hybrid model as a joint decision between the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). This was also agreed upon by the previous management, so he will respect the choice and won’t try to overturn it at the last minute. But whatever choices are made going forward, they will be made with the board and the nation’s interests in mind.
Pakistan was to host the entire Asia Cup.
In the future tour schedule, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has given Pakistan the right to host the 2023 Asia Cup. However, due to political and security concerns, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to play cricket in Pakistan. Former PCB chairman Najam Sethi proposed the hybrid model again in the ACC, which was approved.

The new system will have 4 to 5 games played in Pakistan and the remaining games in Sri Lanka. There will be 8 to 9 matches played in Sri Lanka total, including all of India’s matches and the final (if Team India advances). The competition will begin on August 31 and last through September 17. This competition will last 50 overs and take place a month before the ODI World Cup. India has won the trophy seven times, while Sri Lanka is the current champion of the competition.
Monday marked the end of Najam Sethi’s term.
Rameez Raja was fired from his position as PCB chairman in December 2022, and Najam Sethi was appointed as the board’s interim chairman. He also left his position on Monday, June 20, after Mustafa Ramde and Zaka Ashraf were nominated to run for the position of new chairman in the PCB elections that will take place this week. Sethi’s candidature, however, was turned down.
According to news reports, Ashraf is under government protection. As a result, he will become the PCB’s new chairman. From 2011 to 2013, he served as PCB chairman as well.
India and Pakistan may clash three times.
The Asia Cup’s third team, Nepal, is in the same group as India and Pakistan. After tussling in the India-Pakistan group stage, there may be a face-off in the Super-4 stage as well; both must advance from the group stage for this to happen. If India and Pakistan make it to the finals, they will face off three times during the tournament. The finals will feature the top-2 teams from the Super-4 stage.
