Amritpal Singh

As it has been proved that fugitive Amritpal Singh and his sidekick Papalpreet Singh have been using houses of worship as their hideouts since the pair gave the Punjab Police the slip on March 18, it is said that the Punjab Police have intensified their search in deras and gurdwaras in the area.

Hideouts.

  • They have used 7 deras and gurdwaras to conceal thus far.
  • They include one each in UP and U’khand and five in Punjab.

Considering that Papalpreet has personal connections in gurdwaras and deras, the fugitives have been using these locations to obtain housing, vehicles, clothing, phones, and SIM cards.

It’s interesting that none of these gurdwaras are near a road. Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet have so far visited at least seven deras or gurdwaras, including five in Punjab and one each in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The two proceeded to a gurdwara in Shahkot’s Nangal Ambian shortly after the pursuit began on March 18 to get food and clothing resembling those from the West before making their getaway on bikes. The Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Sheikhupur Village, Phillaur, was their next stop. These had been delivered by the granthi’s son, who had been riding his bicycle, to the side of Ludhiana.

They stayed at two homes of women who were Amritpal Singh contacts in Patiala, Shahbad, and Delhi on March 19 and 20. They stopped at Sikh deras and gurdwaras once more on their way to Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. As soon as they heard the news that Akal Takht Jathedar had made the decision to come to their support, the administrators at the Hazur Sahib-affiliated gurdwara in Uttarakhand even arranged a car for their return to Punjab. On Monday of last week, they reportedly travelled in the vehicle to Nadalon dera in Hoshiarpur (March 27).

They relocated from Hoshiarpur to a dera in Saproad village, Phagwara. They once more travelled to Hoshiarpur for an interview in an Innova on Wednesday, March 28th, in the evening. Another dera connected to Hazur Sahib had also furnished this car.

They hid once more in another Hoshiarpur dera. They slept in the dera in silence for the night as the police continued their search for them in the same village from which they had fled on foot. Policemen expressed sorrow for not checking the nearby deras on that particular day.
