Since its founding in 2008, Varuna has been the constituency that is most frequently discussed. It has served as a stronghold for the Siddaramaiah family and has helped the Congress win three elections in a row

Live updates for the Karnataka elections in 2023 (May 8): On Monday, BJP leader and former chief minister B S Yediyurappa asserted that Siddaramaiah, the leader of the Congress, “will lose the election from Varuna constituency miserably.” Since its founding in 2008, Varuna has been the constituency that is most frequently discussed. It has been a stronghold for Siddaramaiah’s family and helped the Congress secure three straight victories in 2018—two for Siddaramaiah and one for his younger son Yathindra.

Sonia Gandhi, the former president of the Congress, was the subject of a complaint from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday regarding her remark that her party will not tolerate anyone endangering the “reputation, sovereignty, or integrity” of Karnataka. Additionally, the BJP asked the EC to direct the filing of a FIR against her. Gandhi has broken rules of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), according to Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, who submitted the complaint. She called Gandhi’s statement “shocking and unacceptable.”

Gandhi gave a speech at a campaign event in Hubballi on Saturday, and the Congress tweeted that the Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson “sends a strong message to 6.5 crore Kannadigas” and showed images of her addressing the crowd. “The Congress will not permit anyone to pose a threat to Karnataka’s reputation, sovereignty, or integrity,” stated the tweet from the Congress.
