Dear Students,

My identity as a person has much to do with my professional career. I am a teacher by profession and by choice. Choosing another career option never came into picture for me.

Today I feel complete- having found my calling and striving continuously at getting better at it. The journey so far has been eventful________with moments of exhilarating highs and dampening lows, times of obscurity and clarity, self doubt and confidence, vexation and satisfaction, but altogether an enriching and rewarding experience. My mathematics background and good organizational skills have helped me master the challenging situation in life.

I would like to share with you a few insight on classroom management that I picked up during my tenure as a teacher and the Head of the Institution. As a teacher we need to focuses on the holistic development of the child. Children are like wet clay, they need to be fostered with utmost care and perfection. Not every approach works for every child. Teachers need to be flexible. Inconsistency in expectations and consequences can lead to dysfunction in the classroom. If you want child to succeed, be on the look out for opportunity to say “Well done” don’t miss out on it! Any well accomplished task be it good penmanship, caring for school property, sharing things or good grades must be appreciated whole heartedly. We need to create an empowering environment that grooms good human beings. Children are sensitive and tender minds, so as facilitators. We need to be calm and composed. The responsibility of providing wholesome education to students and giving shape to their career is what makes the job of a teacher more sacred and proves than other professions.

Before putting an end to my thoughts I would like to give some practical tips to teachers as well as students through a parable of a pencil.

Once the Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, before putting it into the box. “There are 5 things you need to know, he told the pencil, before I send you out into the world. Always remember and never forget them and you will become the best pencil you be.”

One   :-       You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone’s hand.

Two   :-       You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you will need to become a better pencil.

Three:-        You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

Four  :-       You will always be what is inside.

Five:-          You must leave your mark on every surface you are used. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.

If this pencil is replaced with you, then you must try to analyse and remember and live with a purpose in heart. Allow this parable on the pencil to encourage you to know that you are special person and only you can fulfill the purpose to which you were born to accomplish. Never allow yourself to get discouraged and think that your life is insignificant and cannot make a change.

All said and done, I believe that teaching is an intuitive process. The passion to teach and the commitment to continuous learning is what makes the teacher a true educator in the real sense of word. The future of the country is coming to us and that too for a period of 14 years! It’s now up to us to grab this as an opportunity and make a real difference in the lives of children.
