Subodh Public School Hosts Free Cancer Screening and Awareness Camp in Jaipur

Subodh Public School, Rambagh, hosted a free cancer screening and awareness camp on Friday in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Centre and Cancer Care, bringing specialist consultations and diagnostic services to teachers and parents on the school campus.

Free cancer screening camp offers specialist consultations

The four-hour camp, held from 10 am to 2 pm, offered medical consultations and a range of screening services. These included mammography, Pap smear testing, X-rays and blood tests such as CA-125 and prostate-specific antigen, or PSA.

The participating organisations said the initiative was intended to improve awareness of cancer risk factors and warning signs while encouraging people to seek qualified medical advice when unusual symptoms appear.

Screening tests do not independently confirm every form of cancer. Doctors assess which test is appropriate according to a person’s age, sex, symptoms, medical history and individual risk factors. Abnormal screening results generally require further clinical evaluation.

Teachers briefed on warning signs and misconceptions

Before the screening began, Dr Shivani Mathur conducted an awareness session for the school’s teachers. She discussed potential causes and risk factors, early warning signs and common misconceptions associated with cancer.

The session emphasised that awareness and timely medical consultation can help identify certain cancers at an earlier stage, when treatment may be more effective. Participants were also advised to rely on professional medical assessment rather than fear, stigma or unverified information.

Symptoms that may require medical attention

Doctors advised participants not to ignore persistent or unexplained changes such as an unusual lump, a prolonged cough, blood in the stool or urine, and unintentional weight loss.

Such symptoms do not necessarily indicate cancer and may have several other causes. However, a persistent or worsening symptom should be evaluated by a qualified doctor instead of being self-diagnosed or left unattended.

Camp linked to wider early-detection initiative

Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Centre and Cancer Care launched the “Cancer Jaanch Aapke Dwar” campaign in 2023. The programme uses a specially equipped screening vehicle to extend awareness and selected diagnostic services to communities across Rajasthan.

According to the hospital, the campaign focuses on the early identification of common cancers, including breast, cervical, ovarian, oral, lung and prostate cancers. Its screening facilities include mammography, X-ray, Pap smear testing and sample collection for selected blood investigations.

School seeks to make health awareness part of education

Subodh Public School also invited students’ parents to the camp, extending the programme beyond the teaching staff and making preventive health awareness a shared school-community initiative.

Principal Dr Sanjay Parashar said cancer awareness, regular health examinations and a constructive mindset can play an important role in encouraging timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

The initiative reflected a broader approach to school-based health education: equipping families with reliable information, reducing misconceptions and encouraging them to seek medical attention without unnecessary delay.
