The interception followed emergency warnings issued in Mecca, Jeddah and Taif amid an escalation in missile and drone attacks on the kingdom.
What happened to the Houthi drone near Mecca?
The Saudi-led coalition said the drone was launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement and was destroyed south of Mecca before it could enter the city’s restricted airspace.
