Credent Tv: Weeks after being elected Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge, who is still the opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha, held a gathering of “like-minded opposition groups.”
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress were two surprising attendees at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s opposition party meeting this morning in parliament.
Mr. Kharge convened a conference of “like-minded opposition parties” to establish a shared approach for the winter session, which began today. Mr. Kharge, who is still the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha weeks after being elected Congress president, called the meeting. Leftist parties, the DMK, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the National Conference, and the RSP attended the meeting in addition to the AAP and Trinamool.
“The home of democratic deliberation is parliament. All of the topics important to our people will be vigorously brought up by us, the like-minded parties. We expect the administration to live up to its words after PM Modi mentioned that the opposition would have more opportunities to participate “Kharge posted a tweet.
“Laws that are hastily passed are subject to judicial review. Therefore, we anticipate that any significant legislation will be referred to Joint/Select Committees for thorough review. We are willing to participate fully in parliamentary proceedings and debates, “The leader of Congress wrote.
Parliament is the abode of democratic deliberation.
We, the like-minded parties will strongly raise all the issues relevant to our people.
PM @narendramodi ji, you spoke about opposition getting more chance to participate, therefore we expect the Govt to walk its talk.

It was unexpected that the AAP and Trinamool attended Mr. Kharge’s meeting given that both organisations have long been at odds with the Congress. They refused to cooperate with any Congress-led legislation during the monsoon session of parliament.

Recent reports indicated that Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal, and the Trinamool had opted to forgo any coordination with the Congress to oppose the government in parliament.
With the attacks of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, any cooperation with the Congress has become even less feasible for the Trinamool.
Mamata Banerjee’s party is Mr. Chowdhury’s principal objective in Bengal. The Chief Minister was recently charged with softening her stance toward the BJP and PM Modi out of desperation as investigation agencies pursued her party’s leaders.
The two parties abstained from Mr. Kharge’s November 29 meeting with opposition floor leaders to discuss matters to bring up in the session.
However, the Trinamool did show up for an all-party gathering that was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In July, during a contentious standoff with the government over the suspension of opposition MPs, both AAP and Trinamool had skipped a similar meeting called by Mr. Kharge, who was then the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
In addition, the Trinamool has typically protested independently in parliament rather than supporting any cause sponsored by the Congress.

The end of the winter session, which was postponed by a month due to the Gujarat election, will be on December 29.
