When Raul Dravid’s term as head coach ends during the 2024 T20 World Cup, Gautam Gambhir is reportedly the front-runner to take over. It is said that WV Raman and Gambhir were the only two applicants for the head coaching post
In a recent meeting with the BCCI’s Cricket Administrative Committee (CAC), Gambhir reportedly set five requirements for taking on the role of head coach for India, according to a new Navbharat Times story.
5 requirements listed by Gautam Gambhir to become head coach of India:
Gambhir’s desire for complete control over Team India’s cricket operations is the first prerequisite.
Furthermore, it has been stated that Gambhir has requested the ability to select his own support personnel. The current support staff consists of T Dilip as the fielding coach, Paras Mhambrey as the bowling coach, and Vikram Rathour as the batting coach.
The third and possibly most contentious requirement is that Gambhir wants to fire Mohammed Shami, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja if they don’t do well in the forthcoming Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
Fourthly, when it comes to Test cricket, Gambhir wants his own team.
Lastly, Gambhir wants to get started early on creating the schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
