News from Air India Express: After an engine fire, the flight returned in less than 45 minutes from Abu Dhabi.

Shortly after takeoff, an Air India Express from Abu Dhabi to Kozhikode (or Calicut) in Kerala was forced to do a turnaround due to a “flameout” in the No. 1 engine as the jet was ascending.

The aircraft was a Boeing 737-800, and according to the country’s aviation watchdog, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, it was “engaged in (an) air turnback.”

Today (Feb. 3), an Air India Express B737-800 flying on flight IX 348 (Abu Dhabi–Calicut) experienced an air turnback when the No. 1 engine caught fire at 1,000 feet while climbing.

The airline said that the flight had to turn around due to a “technical problem.”

The technical issue was discovered after takeoff, and the aircraft safely returned to Abu Dhabi International Airport with all 184 people on, according to all established procedures.

“As per policy, this incident has been reported to the relevant regulatory bodies, and alternative arrangements are being prepared for the visitors. We apologize for the trouble this has created for our passengers.”
