On Sunday in Hooghly, commotion and stone-throwing break out during the BJP Shobha Yatra.

The Hooghly district was the scene of a recent stone-pelting incident, which prompted the railways to halt all local and mail express train service.

On Monday evening, a new instance of stone-throwing was reported in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, prompting the railways to halt all local and mail express train services that ran to and from Rishra railway station.

In response to a stone-throwing incident near level crossing gate no. 4 (spl) of Rishra (Shrirampur end), Miron said in a statement that train movements across the Howrah-Bandel main line section had to be discontinued starting at 22:06 on March 4, 2023.

However, Miron said that as things got better at 1.07am, train service in the area resumed.

“As a result of this, some local trains and long-distance trains experienced significant delays while travelling. The train service between Howrah and Bandel and Howrah and Burdwan is now normal, he continued.

According to the news agency ANI, police and the rapid action force (RAF) have been stationed in the region to stop any untoward incidents or acts of violence.

Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP state legislator, said in a tweet that “Rishra is burning” and that the whole state government is vacationing on the beach in Digha.

“Local and express train services on the Howrah-Bardhaman Line were forced to be suspended due to stone pelting and bombing at Rishra Railway Station. Following RPF’s intervention, train services have finally been resumed. The entire State Administration is on vacation at Digha’s beaches while Rishra burns, Adhikari tweeted.

The incident occurred the day after fighting broke out at the BJP’s Shobha Yatra in Hooghly on Sunday. Thereafter, the state administration issued cease-and-desist orders and shut down internet access throughout the district.

In the midst of Ram Navami celebrations, two groups clashed in Howrah on Thursday, resulting in several vehicles being set ablaze. The rioters damaged both public and private property and burned down cars while the march was in progress.

The West Bengal government on Friday gave the Criminal Investigation Department control of the investigation into the violence in Howrah (CID). The investigation has been started by a special team under the direction of Inspector General of Police CID Sunil Choudhury.
