Neena Gupta is jealous of Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone’s Met Gala and Oscar performances: “I’m very envious,”

Neena Gupta discusses how she felt “envy” after seeing Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone at the Met Gala and the Oscars in 2023.

In a new interview, veteran actor Neena Gupta spoke about young Bollywood actors being invited to international events. The actor had mixed feelings as she saw the younger generation making in big internationally. Speaking about actors such as Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, Neena said she wished she could have received this kind of global ‘exposure’ back in the day. She said she feels ‘envious’ when she sees them at such events.

While Deepika Padukone was a presenter at the 95th Academy Awards, which were held in March in Los Angeles, Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt made heads turn at this year’s Met Gala, which was held in New York on May 1 (May 2 in India).

Neena Gupta mentioned them in an interview with and expressed her desire to be a young actor at the time. “I wish we had received the same publicity. Every minute that goes by, it crosses my mind. Every moment makes me feel envy (laughs). What would happen if I were a young performer today? There was so much more I could have done. Having said that, I am aware that not all of your wishes will come true. Even at this advanced age, I do feel grateful for all the work that is coming my way. However, I do get quite envious when I see women walking [on the international stage] in gowns, Neena admitted.

The actor added that she would wear an outfit created by her daughter, actor-designer Masaba Gupta, if she were ever invited to a major international event. “If they call me, I’m game,” Neena Gupta declared. I am not physically capable of donning a gown. So, if I get invited to go [to an international event], I’ll wear a gorgeous saree. However, no one has invited me (laughter). I have Masaba to style me if a chance arises.
