The appointment of Indian-American Ravi Chaudhary as the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Energy, Installations, and the Environment was approved by the US Senate on March 15. With a vote of 65-29 in favour of the mandate, Ravi Chaudhary became one of the top civilian leaders in the Pentagon. He holds this position for the first time as an Indian-American.

US Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), who issued a statement congratulating Ravi Chaudhary on his accomplishment, backed Ravi Chaudhary’s nomination. She said that Chaudhary had devoted his career to public service and had aspired to serve the United States as an Air Force pilot.

She expressed her belief in his abilities and expertise for the position and said she was looking forward to working with him to serve the Air Force’s men and women.

Ravi Chaudhary, who is he?
Between 1993 and 2015, Ravi Chaudhary was a pilot in the Air Force on active duty. During this time, he participated in multiple combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. After leaving the military, Chaudhary worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for five years as a senior official in the Regions and Center Operations and Office of Commercial Space. He was also given a position on the President’s Advisory Committee on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders by President Obama.
