The 250-day-long war between Russia and Ukraine is not taking the name of ending, but is intensifying. On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin clarified the attacks on Ukraine’s power plants and other infrastructure. He said Ukrainian drones used the safe sea route to the Black Sea to attack Russian forces, which were sending grain ships through UN efforts. In protest, Putin stopped his partnership in grain exports from the Black Sea.

President Putin alleged that Ukraine carried out drone strikes on a Russian army fleet in Crimea. In response, we targeted its power plants. In a press conference, Putin said that Ukrainian drones used the same secure sea corridors through which grain ships, mediated by the United Nations, are used to launch the attack.

Did not use sea corridor for attack: Ukraine
On the other hand, Ukraine has said in response to Putin’s allegation that its military has not used the maritime security corridor built for grain exports to attack Russian troops. No grain ships crossed the Black Sea route on Saturday, while Russia alleges drone attacks were carried out on its ships in Crimea.

Seeing Putin’s anger, it seems that the attacks against Ukraine may intensify. On the other hand, Ukrainian officials said that the hydroelectric power plant was affected by the Russian attacks. Due to this, electricity and water supply in Ukraine has come to a standstill.

Russian missiles being fired from drones
It has been 250 days since the Russia-Ukraine war started on 24 February. This stagnation is getting far and fast. On Monday, Russia fired missiles from drones in several cities of Ukraine. There was a huge explosion in the capital Kyiv. Ukraine’s army chief said in a statement on Facebook that the Russian military bombed infrastructure facilities in at least six areas of Ukraine.

Thousands of people are living without electricity
According to the governor of the Northeast Kharkiv region, Oleh Sinyhubov, about 1.5 million people have been out of power after the Russian attacks. This includes 50,000 people from Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city. Although Ukraine’s military claimed to have shot down 44 of 50 Russian missiles, the attacks left 80% of Kyiv unavailable for drinking water. Ukrainian police said 13 people were injured in the latest attacks.

Food crisis may deepen, rise in wheat prices
An announcement by Russia to stop its participation in the grain export program could deepen the food crisis around the world. On the other hand, Ukrainian and UN officials said that 12 ships carrying grain left Ukrainian ports even after the Russian decision. Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky said his country would continue with the grain export program negotiated by the United Nations and Turkey in July. Its aim is to mitigate the global food crisis. Meanwhile, the US State Department said that the price of wheat and other food grains increased due to uncertainty about the Black Sea grain export program. Global wheat prices on Monday rose by more than five per cent due to Russia’s exit from the deal.
