India improves in the FIFA rankings, moving up five spots to number 101

For the first time in six years, the defending world champions Argentina made it to the top of the FIFA World Rankings on Thursday. In the meantime, India has advanced five spots to take up position 101.

Last month, Argentina had defeated Brazil in two friendlies to take the top spot. Brazil had fallen to third place after losing to Morocco 1-2.

Last month, victories over Curaçao (7-0) and Panama (2-0) allowed Argentina to surpass Brazil. Brazil lost to Morocco 1-2 and fell to third place overall. In the tournament held in Imphal last month, India defeated Myanmar 1-0 and Kyrgyzstan 2-0. India has gained 8.57 rating points and five positions as a result of this victory.

India is currently one position above Kenya and one position beneath New Zealand. The team led by Igor Stimac is ranked 19th among 46 Asian countries with a total of 1200.66 points. India’s highest placement was 94th, attained in 1996. Among Asian nations, Japan’s team is ranked first.
