Ukraine’s villages, towns and some cities have been plunged into darkness without electricity due to Russia’s continuing missile attacks and shelling. Ukraine has today decided to cut off the electricity supply across the country, in view of Russia’s relentless attack on energy installations and their complete destruction.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with senior energy officials to discuss electricity and power generation. Zelensky said 30 percent of Ukraine’s power stations were affected by Russian attacks, creating an energy crisis in the country.

A senior official in the Zelensky office said Russia had completely demolished power generation facilities. Therefore, on October 20, electricity supply will be stopped throughout Ukraine. He further told that this is a remedy. Electricity will be off from 7 am to 11 pm. He said that it is necessary to minimize the use of electricity.

On the other hand, another sign of the closeness of the Russia-Iran alliance appeared, with Tehran deciding to send its trainers to Moscow to solve problems with the drone fleet it bought from it. Iran has also assured to supply more drones to Russia.

Minutes after Moscow-appointed top commander for the attack, General Sergei Surovikin, announced the evacuation of civilians from Ukraine’s four occupied districts, the situation in the Kherson region had become difficult. Ukrainian forces are slowly moving towards the capital city of Kherson, aiming to drive the Russians across the Dniepro River.

Meanwhile, the head of the regional business administration, Vladimir Saldo, said residents would be evacuated from four districts west of the Dniepro River. Saldo has been appointed by the Kremlin as governor of the Kherson region. The head of the Russian military force, General Surovikin, has also acknowledged that the Russian army will help in the evacuation.

He accepted with tacit approval that it might be necessary to retreat from Kherson. Meanwhile, Iran instructors are working at a Russian military base in Crimea. Here the drones received by Russia for the attack against Ukraine are kept. Former senior Pentagon official CIA Mick Mulroy said Iran is planning to send drones and trainers to Ukraine. With this, drone attacks on Ukrainian cities could become even more dire in the coming days.

Power crisis in Ukraine deepens due to Russian attacks
Ukrainian officials said Moscow is attacking its energy installations to tilt Kyiv down. Enerhodar Mayor Dmitro Orlov said electricity and water stations in the city had been targeted. The regional governor said a power plant in Kryvyi Rih, located in Ukraine’s south-central region, was badly destroyed by missile strikes.
