US says ‘confident’ Pakistan can secure nukes after Biden’s ‘dangerous nation’ remark causes uproar

The US has clarified on President Joe Biden’s statement after calling Pakistan the most dangerous country in the world. Biden said this while expressing concern about Pakistan’s nuclear weapons. Now the US State Department has said that it is confident that Pakistan will keep nuclear weapons safe.

The US State Department said on Monday that it is confident of Pakistan’s ability to protect nuclear assets, but it has these weapons without any coherence. US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedanta Patel said in a press conference on Monday that the US has always considered a secure and prosperous Pakistan as vital to American interests. America has a long partnership with Pakistan. We are bound by a strong partnership.

Patel said the US has confidence in Pakistan’s ability to safeguard nuclear assets. However, he declined to comment on Biden’s remarks. Patel said that the Pakistan Foreign Minister was in Washington in the past and had met the US Secretary of State. After this, Counselor Derek Cholet also went to Karachi and Islamabad. Our officers are constantly meeting with the Pakistani officials.

Shahbaz Sharif called Biden’s remarks misleading, summoned US ambassador
On Thursday, Biden, while addressing the program of the Democratic Party’s campaign committee, described Pakistan as one of the dangerous countries of the world. This was rejected by Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif, saying that it is factually incorrect and misleading. After this, the Pakistani government had officially protested by summoning the US ambassador.

After this, Sharif had tweeted saying that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power country. We are proud that we have protected our nuclear assets in accordance with International Nuclear Agency guidelines. We take these security arrangements very seriously, no one should doubt about it.

Relations deteriorated due to Taliban support
Relations between the US and Pakistan deteriorated due to the Taliban’s support in Afghanistan. America was also upset with the presence of a large number of jihadis and terrorists in Pakistan. In 2011, when al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed by the US in Pakistan, relations soured further. After a few years of tension, relations between the US and Pakistan were back to normal.
